One of the best fashion designers in India, Payal Singhal is known for her intriguing and inventive contemporary Indian designs. A self-made woman who started out at just 15, the designer has dressed Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor and other A-listers.
The next stop!
Now, the power-woman is out to conquer the world of bags with her latest range of soft bags with Payal Singhal x Desai Foundation Collection. Guess who is her army? The rural women of Valsad, Gujrat. These women are specially trained to create high-quality products and are a part of the Desai Foundation Vocational Sewing Program. The bags are sewn, embroidered, and finished by them.
Charity is not enough!
Payal is not one to believe that donating money is charity enough (hear, hear). The designer decided to address the root problem which is women empowerment. In an interview with Elle she said,” For years, I’ve been wanting to work with a charity I believed in and who worked with women. When I met Megha Desai, President of the Desai Foundation, I knew instantly that this was the project I had to get involved with.”
Singhal has also made sure that for every bag that is sold, part of the money goes to the foundation. They are now financially independent and empowered. What’s more? They are making a difference in the world too! Payal says,” The Desai Foundation tailor-made this program for us wherein we create jobs for the women by having them manufacture the bags and travel pouches we are selling.”
The mesmerizing designs!
Payal has decided to go back to the grassroots for her designs in this range which includes overnight bags, totes, makeup kits, kid’s wear, occasion wear, men’s wear accessories and stationery! And all of them have her signature prints!
